Our Why
When Jayla’s grandfather was still living, he decided to plant a grapevine on the lands he and her grandmother own. When he planted the grapevine, he turned to Jayla’s aunts and uncles (his children) and said, “I may never get to eat a grape off of these vines, but my grandchildren will.” Jayla’s grandfather passed shortly after. He never got to see the fruit of his decision. But Jayla and the rest of her cousins, included, have gratefully enjoyed the surplus of muscadine grapes that produce from the vines that exist, because her granddad made a decision. A decision not for himself, but for the benefit of others.
Warren Buffet once said, “Someone’s sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.”
And Dr. Suess said, “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”
Three core principles Queen Estates is founded on; the wise words of Warren Buffet and Dr. Suess. And the actions of Jayla’s Grandfather.
The idea and notion of seeing ahead into the future, centuries from now, and waking up each day to plant those seeds that will bring that future into fruition, is a core principle that forms Jayla’s daily decision.
Martin Luther King Jr. lived by this principle too. He was able to see a world in which,
“…little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers.”
~MLK “I Have a Dream” speech
MLK first gave this speech on August 28, 1963. And as Jayla looks around the 21st century today, over 6 centuries later, she sees exactly what he envisioned. She sees what he worked so hard for though he didn’t get to see the full fruit of it.
Just as MLK saw, Jayla sees today, in a world of chaos, pockets of peace, of love, of help, and of hope bringing restoration back to this world. Pockets that look like individuals returning to communities and there being less focus on hyper-individualism than there is on working together. Pockets that are possible because the voice of shame in society is judged harshly, overturned, and silenced by the voice of compassion.
“I see wells being built in underprivileged places and young mothers having access to clean water in order to bathe the bottoms of their 6 month old babies. I see young girls having the provision they need when faced with their menstrual cycles and not having to miss school because they don't have access to supplies to care for themselves.
One thing I’ve learned in my short years is that it’s hard to do anything when you’re hungry. It’s hard to think. Hard to sleep. It’s hard to stay warm. And hard to know joy. It’s perpetual, hunger doesn’t stop arriving for anyone. This is why I too see malnourished little boys and little girls being spoon-fed to regain their strength. And mothers and fathers not having to sacrifice satiating their own hunger so their children can be fed, because there is enough for them and for their little ones too.I see pockets of peace brought back to a chaotic world.
I see needs being met.”~Jayla Scott
This is why the words of Warren Buffet, the actions of Jayla’s grandfather, and the observation of Dr. Suess have become core principles of who Jayla chooses to be. Principles that have formed the foundation Queen Estates LLC operates from. Queen Estates is not a momentary investment for short-term gains, but a means to an end. It’s the provision for the vision, to inevitably provide that shade, Warren speaks of, for another soul. To provide for those malnourished individuals. To provide for those young girls and young mothers. And to provide for those young babies and resilient fathers.
Partnering with Queen Estates, is partnering with this vision. It's partnering with a new generation of leaders whose desires are to bring back pockets of peace into a chaotic world.

One way we’ve been able to bring back this peace is by creating blessing bags. Filling these bags with items from toothpaste and soap to band-aids and socks. Then have gratefully gone and handed them out to homeless individuals. If you are interested in learning of our future projects, such as these bags, fill out our forum and we will let you know when another project is underway.
